Renewal of Registration

The Construction Workers Registration Card can be renewed within three months before the expiry date. The renewal application can be submitted by post or to any of the Workers Registration Offices in person (welcome to make prior appointment by phone).

Application for Renewal

  1. Appointment by Phone:
    Please call 2873 1911 in 1 to 28 days in advance to make your appointment on the date, time and the Workers Registration Office for submitting the application (appointment by fax or e-mail will not be accepted). Applicants who have made an appointment by phone should arrive at the selected Workers Registration Office 15 minutes before the appointment time.
  2. Walk-in Application:
    You may go direct to any of the Workers Registration Offices without appointment and submit your renewal application form together with all the required documents and the application fee for processing your application. Acceptance of application via this method depends on the availability of daily quotas for walk-in application at respective Workers Registration Office.
  3. By Mail:
    Applicants may apply for renewal of registration by mail. The duly completed Application Form for Renewal of Registration (For Mail Application Only) should be sent to the "Workers Registration Office Aberdeen Headquarters, 6/F., 95 Yue Kwong Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong" together with the required documents, application fees (For payable application fees, please refer to Guidance Notes on Completing Application Form for Renewal by Mail at the back of the application form.) and a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage. Please mark "Renewal" on the envelope. Applicants must sign and write "Certified True Copy" on their submitted documents. (Note: Please do not send the original documents by post.)
  4. Group Submission by Unions:
    Applicants may apply for renewal of registration through trade unions. The following trade unions are now providing renewal application, registration card collection* and Group Mail Application services. Please contact respective trade unions for details.

    * Some unions do not provide registration card collection service. Please enquire respective trade unions on the arrangements for card collection.

Documents Required

The following documents are required for processing renewal application:

  • A completed Renewal Application Form
  • Hong Kong Identity Card (If you are not a Hong Kong Permanent Resident, you are required to present in addition to your Hong Kong Identity Card (if any), the original and copy of your One Way Exit Permit or passport/travel document or other approving documents showing a valid employment visa relevant to the trade(s) for which an application is made.)
  • The original and copy of a valid Green Card (with validity not less than 30 days at the date of application)
  • The original and copy of the documentary proof of qualifications with validity not less than 30 days in respect of the trades for which an application for renewal is made
  • The original and copy of valid certificates for Individual trades:
    • Diver - medical certificate
    • Lift Mechanic / Escalator Mechanic ¡V proof of employment by registered contractors
    • Building Security System Mechanic ¡V Valid Security Personnel Permit (Category ¡§D¡¨ )

 Application Form

The renewal application form can be obtained from all Workers Registration Offices, respective trade unions and trade associations or downloaded here[Application Form for Renewal of Registration (For Mail Application Only)].

Application fees for renewal
In accordance with the Construction Workers Registration (Fees) Regulation, the fee payable in respect of an application for renewal of registration is $100. (the registration will be valid for 3 years).
* Remarks on Application Fee:

  1. If the applicant possesses an "Other Qualification" as specified in Column 4 of Schedule 1 of the Ordinance in respect of one of the trades for which an application is made, he/she is entitled to pay only half of the renewal fee for registration.

  2. Renewal fee has to be paid when the application is made.

  3. Construction worker, who has already registered as a Registered General Worker, may after acquiring the qualifications of a Registered Skilled Worker / Registered Semi-skilled Worker through trade test, or wish to add-on the registration as a Registered Skilled Worker (Provisional) / Registered Semi-skilled Worker (Provisional) for some designated trades, could submit the application to the Workers Registration Office at the same time. No extra registration fee is required.

Collection of new Registration Card

  1. Workers must return the old Worker Registration Card for cancellation when collect the new card (in case of lost card, please refer to the Procedures and Fees for replacement of lost and damaged registration card).

  2. For applicants who have applied for renewal of registration in person, they can send their representative to collect the new card. The representative must bring along the "Notification of Registration Card Collection" and return applicant's old Workers Registration Card to the Workers Registration Offices. If the old registration card is lost, applicants must apply for replacement of registration card in person before they collect the new card.

  3. For trade unions providing card collection service, the renewed registration card of the applicants can be collected at collection centres of trade unions. Please contact respective trade unions for details.

  4. Those who opt for mail application are required to collect their cards at Aberdeen Headquarters or Kowloon Bay Branch as indicated in the Renewal Application Form and to bring along the originals of the required documents for verification by Workers Registration Offices. An applicant may also authorize another person to collect the Registration Card on his/her behalf by filling in the specified authorization form. The authorized person shall present to the staff in the WRO the authorization form, a photocopy of the applicant¡¦s HK Identity Card, originals of valid Green Card and documentary evidence for qualifications, authorized person¡¦s own HK Identity Card, and sign on respective card collection document & ¡§Confirmation of Application Data¡¨on behalf of the applicant. The authorized person shall also return the existing registration card on behalf of the applicant.
